Biography
Alicia Ross is the co-author of the new best selling cookbook, Cheap. Fast. Good! (Workman, Dec. 2005). She also co-authors the nationally syndicated food column, “Desperation Dinners!” and the best selling cookbooks, Desperation Dinners! and Desperation Entertaining! (Workman, 1997, 2002).
Ross graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in Journalism. Working for newspapers since graduation and coming from a long line of serious Southern cooks, in 1993, she was finally able to write about her food passion when she became the “Specialty of the House” columnist for the News and Observer in Raleigh, NC. Ross continued writing “Specialty of the House” for six years.
In 1994 she teamed up with co-author Beverly Mills to begin the self-syndication of their original column, “Desperation Dinners!” Now, twelve years later, over 100 papers nationwide publish the “Desperation Dinners!” column, syndicated by United Media.
The two authors have most recently collaborated on another terrific cookbook in the series, Cheap! Fast! Good! This book focuses on feeding your family quick nutritious meals without breaking the bank. Its common-sense, budget-wise advice will surely please cooks across the country no matter what their reason might be for wanting to save money on their food bill.
Ross is an active member of the International Association of Culinary Professionals. She is also a frequent guest speaker, product spokesperson, and radio and television guest. Ross has judged cooking contests on everything from chili to fruitcakes and was a judge for the 50th Anniversary Pillsbury Bake-off Contest in February 2000.
Ross lives with her husband and two teenage daughters in Raleigh, NC.
